Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

We want to address a concern that circulated our community throughout the evening last night.  We want to start by saying that there was not a threat made to any of the schools or the student body.  What did occur was a verbal altercation between two 8th grade students.  From that event, administration began interviewing students before the start of school Thursday morning.  Based on the issue that involved those two students, appropriate disciplinary action was taken.

To be clear, the concern regarding a possible threat to Moulton Middle School was not an accurate reflection of what happened.  We want to thank parents for making us aware of any possible concerns.  Due to the concern in the community, we did have two police officers at Moulton Middle School this morning.

Today, we used this event as a reminder for our students that school safety is of the utmost importance to all of us as parents, community members, and staff.  We reminded them that any time they have a concern regarding their safety, or the safety of others, to immediately contact a staff member so appropriate measures can be taken.

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely, Shelbyville Schools
