Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR)

Dear Main Street Parents and Guardians,

Our 3rd Grade students will take the Illinois Assessment of Readiness on (Monday, March 25th – Friday, March 29th). Students will test each day this week in the morning.

ELA: March 25th – March 26th (M-ELA 1, T-ELA 2) w/ (75) minute sessions

MATH: March 27th – March 29th (W-MATH 1, TH-MATH 2, F-MATH 3) w/ (60) minute sessions

Our students should feel confident showing what they know and can do on the Illinois Assessment of Readiness.

Please avoid doctor and dentist appointments. If appointments are necessary, please schedule for the afternoon. Please avoid vacations and tardiness. Students should be at school on time and ready for the normal routine. Being rushed and disrupting the morning routine will distract your students and their peers. Students may not enter the classroom once testing has started.

A full night of rest is very important. Please be sure your child is in bed at an early time in the evening. Students may still take advantage of the “Breakfast in the Classroom” program the mornings of testing. Nutrition is important as these are long and hard tests requiring focus and energy from your student.

Also, please consider discussing effort and confidence with your child. There are no students more prepared than our students. If they use basic test-taking strategies such as reading all of the options and the directions closely, and just take their time, they will be proud and perform the best they can.

Our students take federally required assessments every spring. These assessments help us understand how our students are growing academically, compared to their peers across the state. This year, the English language arts and math assessment for grades (3-8) is called the Illinois Assessment of Readiness.

The Illinois Assessment of Readiness measures the Illinois Learning Standards and includes the high-quality test questions.

If you have questions about the Illinois Assessment of Readiness, please reach out to Main Street Principal, Ryan Scott at 217-774-4731 or scottr@shelbyville.k12.il.us. As always, we encourage our students to do their best every day. Thank you for your partnership in your student’s academic success.
