Student Absence / Quarantine with IN PERSON INSTRUCTION

Students who are absent or under quarantine from school should complete all of their school work using the google classroom platform.  The curriculum has been organized by calendar date in an attempt to make things clear and concise.  We will not assign makeup work to high school students when they return, under the presumption that they are able to access the necessary materials remotely.  If there are extenuating circumstances that might inhibit work completion during each day of absence, parents should call the SHS office to report the rationale.

In most cases, students who are absent will be expected to have all makeup work submitted upon their return to the classroom, or more importantly, by the assigned due date within google classroom.  Teachers will be available to answer questions and offer clarifying support throughout their contractual work day (7:45am-3:15pm).

EDGENUITY “Full Time Remote Learners” | Grading Clarification

Learners will see two separate grades within the Edgenuity platform.  This notification is designed to clarify the differences.

OVERALL GRADE

The overall grade represents a student’s performance only on the assignments they have submitted within the platform.  It does not necessarily dictate what their final grade will be at the end of the semester.  For example, a student may have an overall grade of 100% in a course, but if they have only submitted one assignment, that will obviously not be their final grade for the course.

ACTUAL GRADE

The actual grade represents a complex algorithm that combines time-on-task, work completion, and student performance.  This grade can be an interesting snapshot of student progress, but it will not necessarily be the indicator assessed when determining final grades.

Shelbyville High School has a team of educators who are responsible for managing the Edgenuity learning platform.  Additionally, these educators are providing instructional feedback and support throughout the week.  When determining a student’s FINAL SEMESTER GRADE, our professional educators will take into account multiple metrics.  Those include:

  1. If students have incomplete work (not submitted) within their digital courses, those assignments will be given a grade of "0 credit" at the conclusion of the semester.  For students who have not submitted assigned work, this will have a significant and sudden impact on their overall grade.

  2. After all assignments have been issued a grade within the individual courses, the overall grade will comprise 85% of the final grade issued by Shelbyville High School.

  3. All students will submit a semester project to the SHS support team by the end of the semester.  Options for this will be shared with all SHS students during the month of October.  The semester project will be worth 15% of the final course grade.

  4. The final grade reflected on the semester report card will be a combination of the overall grade (85%) and the grade earned on the semester project (15%).
