Main Street School is proud to announce there was a press conference recently held in Washington D.C. During this press conference our very own Main Street School was announced as the winner for the “Every Kid Outdoors” grant. A record number of schools and groups applied and Main Street School was chosen as the national winner!!!! Main Street showcased our “Great Outdoors” unit in P.E.’ “Main Street to the CORPS” day, our Wellness Team, our partnership with USACE of Lake Shelbyville, and partnership with the Lake Shelbyville Fish Habitat Alliance to help Main Street win this award. We were chosen for exposing our Main Street students to the outdoors and challenging them to spend time in the outdoors. This award would not be possible without the support of the National Park Trust, USDA Forest Service, and Every Kid Outdoors. Thanks to these groups we were able to purchase the following to expose our student to the outdoors
25 archery sets with arrows
8 archery targets for a 3D archery course
12 life jackets for life jacket relay races
20 fishing rods and reels
12 GPS units for Geocaching
25 compasses for orienteering
12 tents for camping
Tools for a sand castle building competition
All of these outdoor items will be used during our “Great Outdoors” unit in P.E. and during our “Main Street to the CORPS” field trip. Thank you National Park Trust, USDA Forest Service, and Every Kid Outdoors for believing in Main Street’s vision to get our students outside!!! SEE YOU OUTSIDE
