The Great American Solar Eclipse will occur on Monday, April 8, 2024.  Students at Shelbyville High School will be allowed to view the phenomenon between the time frame of 1:50pm - 2:10pm.  Students who opt to not participate or who are unprepared to safely take part, will remain inside of the school building and will be allowed to view the happening digitally using their Chromebook.

There will be two ways for high school students to participate in this outdoor activity:

  1. BYOG (Bring Your Own Glasses).  These should be glasses that are ISO Certified [ISO 12312-2] with 100% SAFETY AND QUALITY.

  2. Purchase the ISO Certified Glasses that will be available at the school.  We will have a limited supply of premium ISO Certified Glasses for sale at a cost of $2.  Glasses will be sold on Friday and Monday while supplies last.

Once more, if your child is not prepared, they will not be allowed to participate.  Parents who do not want their student to take part in the viewing experience should contact the high school office before 11:00am on Monday, April 8, 2024.

Please communicate with your child about the harmful effects of exposing their eyes to direct sunlight without protection. As educators, we will reinforce strict safety precautions when viewing the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse.  For more information, check out this informational website:  https://science.nasa.gov/eclipses/future-eclipses/eclipse-2024/
