JOB DESCRIPTION - Social Emotional Learning Coach (SEL)

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and experience in social services; preferred knowledge of SEL (Social 

Emotional Learning) competencies, experience working with a variety of children, which may include those who display challenging behaviors related to social-emotional skills, executive functioning skills, and/or trauma.

Reports to: Building Principal

 

Job Goals: Will play an essential role in implementing SEL strategies and curriculum across schools to ensure a positive school climate that supports students’ social and emotional needs. You will work to ensure that SEL is integrated into instruction and daily practices aligned with the building’s SEL goals. 

 

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Design and lead high-quality, engaging SEL coaching; including K-3 classroom SEL lessons. 

  2. Support school-level implementation of SEL by working with school leadership teams to work SEL into school schedules and daily activities.

  3. Provide services to students with and without IEP’s, utilizing methods to meet individual, group, or classroom needs. 

  4. Participate in IEP meetings, write benchmarks and goals, establish appropriate methods to monitor and progress the goals. 

  5. Consult with faculty, team members, parents, additional resource providers, and appropriate outside agencies regarding socio-cultural and emotional factors impacting the student’s academic performance/progress. 

  6. Participate as an active MTSS (PBIS) team member and provide support to ensure the effectiveness of identifying root causes of student behavioral issues, implement appropriate interventions, and report on data at monthly team meetings. 

  7. Support school staff, students, and families by delivering evidence- based interventions that will promote positive behavioral outcomes, including restorative practices, de-escalation strategies and interventions.

  8. Ability to link students and families with school and/or community based programming

  9. Demonstrates and comprehends the urgency to address the SEL and behavioral health needs both on a school-wide level and on an individual student basis.
