With the wish to remain transparent in our district communication, we consider it necessary to inform you of an incident that occurred today at Shelbyville High School.  This afternoon, the school administration was made aware of a potential threat to school safety.  The Shelbyville Police Department was involved in this investigation.

Within the incident, school administration became aware of a text message that included threatening language.  Our students immediately reported the information to the high school principal.  Upon receipt of this information, we quickly identified the source of the alleged threat and established a police presence in and around the school building.  After a thorough investigation conducted by school administration and the Shelbyville Police Department, the threat was determined to be invalid.

At no time today was there any immediate danger to students or staff members.  The procedures that we have in place allowed us to handle this situation with little disruption to the learning environment.  It is important to note that threats made against students, staff, or school buildings are a serious crime.  School discipline along with possible law enforcement action will be taken as is deemed appropriate.

We appreciate your willingness to trust us with your children, and please know that we make every effort to provide them with a safe and caring environment while at school.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to school administration (217-774-3926).
